IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team capped an undefeated run through the Atlantic East Conference, defeating Marywood 74-49 to win their second consecutive Atlantic East Conference Championship at Alumnae Hall.
Carly Coleman led the way for Immaculata, recording her 18
th double-double of the season, scoring 20 points, with 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals to earn Championship Game MVP Honors.
Olivia Ettorre scored 15 points, shooting 6-12 from the field, and 3-6 from beyond the arc, with three blocks and three steals.
Abby Grillo scored 12 points, shooting 10-10 from the free-throw line, with nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Riley Cassidy scored nine points with five rebounds and won the Atlantic East Conference Elite Scholar Athlete Award for having the top cumulative grade point average at the finals site.
With the win, Immaculata extends its winning streak to 16 games, improving to 24-3 overall and 16-0 in the Atlantic East Conference, including the regular season and the tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MARYWOOD
- The Mighty Macs established control early, using defensive pressure and timely perimeter shooting to grab momentum. After briefly trailing, Immaculata responded with a 12-4 surge midway through the quarter. Olivia Ettorre knocked down a pair of three-pointers, while Carly Coleman controlled the glass on both ends. Immaculata forced five first-quarter turnovers and limited Marywood to 29% shooting. A late layup from Ettorre pushed the lead to six after one, giving the Macs early command.
- The Macs broke the game open by holding the Pacers to 1-for-12 shooting (8.3%). Transition baskets from Sabrina Little and Cassidy pushed the lead into double figures, while Grillo's flawless free-throw shooting extended the margin. Immaculata took a commanding 35-19 lead into halftime, dominating the glass and second-chance opportunities.
- Marywood showed early energy, but each push was answered. Coleman scored inside and on the offensive glass, and Cassidy connected from beyond the arc to stretch the lead to 20. Immaculata shot 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in the quarter and carried a 55-34 advantage into the fourth.
- With control firmly in hand, the Mighty Macs maintained defensive intensity and composure. Coleman secured her double-double, and the bench provided steady energy as Immaculata closed out the 74-49 victory.
