READING, Pa. – Immaculata men's lacrosse earned a 12-5 win over the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Wednesday behind a team-high three goals from
Jason Smaron.
The game was originally scheduled as an Immaculata home game, but it was flipped to Alvernia due to weather conditions.
The Mighty Macs are 2-1 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Friday, March 27 versus Marymount.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- With two goals on the board for Alvernia, Smaron was Immaculata's answer for the team's first score of the evening. Both sides would turn the ball over before Matthew Frame netted the next two goals for the Mighty Macs. After the Golden Wolves tied the game, Nick Senatore returned the advantage to Immaculata after a successful clear. It was 4-3 Immaculata after one.
- Similar to the opening frame, Smaron began the scoring for the Mighty Macs in the second quarter on a feed from John Stelacio. Ryan Gorman would then put the Alvernia deficit back to two. Matthew Ludlow made a save in the final minute of the half, with Immaculata up 6-4 going into the locker room.
- Even with the Mighty Macs picking up a penalty early in the third quarter, that did not stop Stelacio from getting past Alvernia's goalie on a man-down situation for the initial goal of his career. Both offenses stayed aggressive, which segued into Immaculata's defense forcing a turnover and Smaron completing the hat trick. Jude Azzarano had the assist. Smaron would help out teammate Aaron Headley moments later, as the former assisted on a goal by the latter. The third quarter ended with the scoreboard at 9-4.
- Right after the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter, Seth Panowitz logged a defensive turnover and scooped up the ground ball. Alvernia scored a man-up goal, but proceeded to allow Gorman to grab his second score of the evening. Azzarano and Thomas Laurenzano boosted the fourth quarter lead, with Laurenzano's being the first score of his career. Immaculata left Reading with a 12-5 victory.
