Women's Volleyball Defeats Delaware Valley in Five Set Thriller

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women' volleyball team defeated Delaware Valey 3-2 in a five-set thriller at Alumnae Hall. Damani Myers had 14 kills, and Angelica Santini Bulerin had 24 assists for the Mighty Macs. This was the first win for Immaculata Head Coach Mary Kirchner.
 
With the win Immaculata improves to 1-1 overall, and Delaware Valley with the loss falls to 1-2 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS DELAWARE VALLEY
  • In the first set, Jenna Bozzo served three consecutive points to give Immaculata a 5-3 lead. After Delaware Valley tied the score at 17-17, Immaculata got a side out on a kill by Emma Hodgson to retake the lead. Emma Hodgson served three consecutive points that included a kill by Mia Esposito as Immaculata would go on win the first set 25-20.
  • Immaculata jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set. Delaware Valley would respond with a six-point run, and a five-point run as they took a 17-8 lead. The Aggies won the second set 25-17.
  • In the third set with Immaculata trailing 7-6, Adriana Ventura served four consecutive points that included a kill from Jenna Bozzo as Immaculata led 11-7. Damani Myers had consecutive kills, followed by a kill by Angelica Santini Bulerin as Immaculata took a 16-11 lead. Jenna Bozzo served five consecutive points that included kills from Damani Myers and Antonia Antolini as Immaculata extended their lead to 22-13. Immaculata won the third set 25-15.
  • Delaware Valley would not go quietly as they rebounded from a 14-9 deficit in the fourth set, to send the match to a deciding set winning 25-22.
  • In the fifth set, Immaculata jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, getting a kill from Damani Myers. Delaware Valley came back to take an 8-7 lead at the side change. Lauren Gartman served consecutive points that came on kills by Damani Myers as Immaculata took a 11-9 lead. Eliana Szatkowski served consecutive points, as Immaculata would go on to take the fifth set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
