Women’s Volleyball Sees Multiple Season-Highs in Midweek Loss to Moravian Greyhounds

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball pushed the Moravian University Greyhounds to "overtime" in two sets on Thursday, but the home team won 3-1.

The Mighty Macs are 1-4 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, Oct. 11 versus Saint Elizabeth.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MORAVIAN
  • It was a back-and-forth affair early on before the Mighty Macs hit a 7-0 run to go up 13-7. Angelica Santini Bulerin served consecutive aces in that stretch. With Immaculata leading 24-20, the Greyhounds utilized a 5-0 run to retake their advantage. Four of the next five points went to the Mighty Macs, with the penultimate point ending with Mia Esposito and Antonia Antolini each recording a block assist. Immaculata won set one 28-26.
  • Moravian jumped out to a quick lead in the second set. Despite Immaculata only trailing by five midway through, a closing 7-2 outburst from the Greyhounds gave them a 25-15 victory in set two.
  • The Mighty Macs set the tone at the start of the third set. Three of the initial six points were kills; one by Calissa Araujo, and consecutive kills from Antolini. Although Immaculata continued to protect the lead throughout the set, Moravian would force "overtime" with a 7-2 run to tie it at 24. The two sides traded back-to-back points twice, but three straight Greyhounds scores won them the set 30-28.
  • Neither team had a true advantage early in the fourth set. Immaculata's final lead was 6-5. Moravian controlled the match the rest of the way and claimed a 25-18 win. Moravian took the match 3-1.
