Men's Soccer Unable to Overcome Albright Lions in Rainy Conditions

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Two second-half goals were the difference in Immaculata men's soccer Wednesday afternoon match with the Albright College Lions. Albright was declared the winner 2-0 when the match ended early at 76:47 due to lightning.

The Mighty Macs are 1-5 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, Oct. 4 versus Centenary (N.J.).

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
  • The match was a defense-oriented affair in the first half. A few early Albright shots were denied by Immaculata's defense. Jonathan Olaleye attempted the initial shot for the Mighty Macs, but it was off-target. In the 18th minute, the Mighty Macs forced a Lions yellow card that resulted in a free kick. Despite Immaculata's offense heating up moments later, their shots were blocked. Both sides would see a couple more attempts before the half concluded in a 0-0 draw.
  • A Luca Greppellini save opened the second half. Even though Immaculata saw good drives on offense, it did not result in scores. A home team yellow card segued into the first Albright goal, which was off an Immaculata deflection. The Lions would hit their second goal of the afternoon at 69:27. This was sandwiched between two Albright yellow cards. The Lions' offense continued to fire away to no success. The match was called prematurely due to lightning in the 77th minute, with Albright claiming a 2-0 victory. Since the match was at least 70 minutes long, the match and its stats count.
