Goucher Sinks Men's Soccer Late in Second Half

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's soccer was minutes away from a scoreless tie, but the Goucher College Gophers scored in the 84th minute to steal a 1-0 decision.

The Mighty Macs are 1-4 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, Oct. 4 versus Centenary (N.J.).

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GOUCHER
  • Both sides saw free kicks early in the match. Kyle Coleman attempted the opening shot of the day, but it was high. The first half was highlighted by strong defense. Luca Greppellini and Goucher's Ale Sternini did not allow any shots past them in net. The Gophers drew a yellow card in the 40th minute. August Welsh's free kick shot, a result of the yellow card, was saved. Even with two Goucher corners in the last 75 seconds of the half, the Mighty Macs' defense neutralized the Gophers' offense. The first 45 minutes ended in a scoreless tie.
  • The Gophers came out of the locker room firing on offense, as Greppellini made three saves in 2.5 minutes. The Mighty Macs were unable to generate consistent offense in the half due to solid midfield defense. In the 84th minute, Greppellini denied one shot before Goucher's Bryan Machado controlled the rebound to hit the game-winner. Both coaching staffs were hit with a yellow card in the latter 45 minutes, with the visitors' card coming in the 88th minute. The Gophers won a tight 1-0 match.
