IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's team got back in the win column defeating Saint Elizabeth on Thursday evening 3-2 (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 26-28, 15-10) at Alumnae Hall. Josh McGurl had 21 kills, and four service aces, Noah Zunski had 20 kills, and two service aces, and Joe Martell tied his own program record with 42 assists to lead the Mighty Macs offense. Defensively, Noah Zunski had 16 digs, and Matthew Pfister and Joe Martell each had 14 digs to lead Immaculata.
With the win Immaculata exceeds their win total from 2024, improving to 6-7 overall. With the loss Saint Elizabeth falls to 2-11 overall.
Prior to the match, Immaculata honored Senior Matthew Pfister and recognized fifth-year Joe Martell for their careers at Immaculata, and for playing their final home games at Alumnae Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1- Noah Zunski served six straight points that included a pair of service aces, a kill of his own, and kills by Josh McGurl and Joe Martell as Immaculata took a 11-5 lead. Brandon Lieberman later served three straight points that included a pair of kills from Zunski as Immaculata took the first set 25-14.
Set 2- The teams would exchange points throughout the second set. With Saint Elizabeth leading 14-11, Immaculata earned a side out on Nate Bailey kill, and Bailey served consecutive points as Immaculata tied the score at 14-14. Saint Elizabeth's would go on to take set two 25-23.
Set 3- Saint Elizabeth took an early 2-0 lead in set three. After a kill by Josh McGurl, Joe Martell served a pair of points including a service ace as Immaculata tied the score at 2-2. Noah Zunski served three consecutive points that included a kill from McGurl as Immaculata would win set three 25-16.
Set 4- With Saint Elizabeth leading 12-7, Immaculata got a side out on a kill by Noah Zunski. Josh McGurl served four consecutive points as Immaculata tied the match at 12-12. Saint Elizabeth later fought off two match points for Immaculata to extend the match to a deciding set taking set four 28-26.
Set 5- Ethan Ngo served consecutive points including a service ace as Immaculata took an early 4-2 lead. Joe Martell and Josh McGurl each served consecutive points as Immaculata extended their lead 13-9. Noah Zunski had a pair of kills, as Immaculata closed out the deciding set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
