Third Quarter Surge Propels Men's Lacrosse to Victory at Alvernia, 13-7

READING, Pa.- The Immaculata men's lacrosse team defeated Alvernia University 13-7 on Tuesday afternoon. Trailing 3-2 in the second quarter, Immaculata scored with 6:03 remaining to send the game to halftime tied at 3-3. Immaculata began the third quarter scoring eight straight goals to take a 11-3 lead. Immaculata would go on to close out the win 13-7. With the win Immaculata improves to 2-1 overall. With the loss Alvernia falls to 1-1

-Nine different Mighty Macs scored goals today, led by Joseph Biuso with three goals, followed by David Azzarano and Ryan Gorman with two goals, Seth Panowitz, Ben Wesolowski, Bailey Manion, Nicholas DeFilippo, Jude Azzarano, and Connor Teears with one goal each.

-Bailey Manion had three assists, David Azzarano, and Connor Teears each had two assists, and Ben Wesolowski had one assist.
 
Defensive
-Matthew Ludlow made 14 saves with three ground balls in goal for Immaculata. Max Cummings made two saves in goal.

-Colton Rhoades had three caused turnovers, Aidan Lawrence, and David Azzarano each had two caused turnovers, and Daniel Alvarez, Ryan Gorman, Bailey Manion, Seth Panowitz, Nicholas DeFillippo, and Jacob Rhoads each had one caused turnover.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with 6:38 remaining in the first quarter. Immaculata would respond with goals from Nicholas DeFillippo, and Ben Wesolowski to tie the score 2-2.
  • Alvernia scored with 13:30 remaining in the second quarter to take a 3-2 lead. Ryan Gorman tied the score for Immaculata and send the game to halftime tied at 3-3.
  • In the third quarter, Immaculata scored eight straight goals with Joseph Biuso scoring three of the goals, and David Azzarano scored two goals, and Bailey Manion, Seth Panowitz, and Connor Teears each scoring one goal. Alvernia would break the Immaculata run with a goal late in the third quarter as Immaculata led 11-4 after three quarters.
  • Ryan Gorman and Jude Azzarano scored in the fourth quarter for Immaculata. Bailey Manion picked up his fourth assist of the game on Azzarano's goal. Immaculata went on to close out the win 13-7.
