Men's Volleyball Falls to Elizabethtown on Friday Evening, 3-0

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's volleyball team fell to Elizabethtown College 3-0 (19-25, 13-25, 22-25) on Friday evening at Alumnae Hall. Josh McGurl had 13 kills, and Joe Martell distributed 20 assists, and added seven digs for Immaculata. 

With the loss Immaculata falls to 5-6 on the season. With the win Elizabethtown improved to 11-5 overall, and 1-1 CVC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • Set 1: Josh McGurl got a kill, and Brandon Lieberman served consecutive points as Immaculata took a 16-12 lead. Elizabethtown would use an eight-point run on their way to taking the first set 25-19. 

  • Set 2: Josh McGurl served consecutive points including a service ace as Immaculata took an early 4-3 lead. Elizabethtown used a four-point, and a five-point run as they opened a 16-8 lead. Immaculata was unable to slow the Blue Jay as they took set two 25-13. 

  • Set 3: Immaculata won a side out on a kill by Josh McGurl. Christian Lee then served consecutive points including a service ace as Immaculata took an 8-7 lead. Immaculata would use a five-point run to take a 16-12 lead. Brandon Lieberman served four straight points that included three kills from Noah Zunski. Elizabethtown would battle back to take set three 25-22, and the match 3-0. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Josh McGurl had 13 kills, one service ace and two digs. 

  • Nate Bailey had five kills, one total block and one dig. 

  • Joe Martell had one kill, 20 assists, one service ace, and seven digs.

  • The Immaculata men's volleyball team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4th when they visit Cairn University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
