Late Surge Lifts Women's Basketball Past Centenary, 72-68

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- Tessa Liberatoscioli hit a three-pointer with 1:56 remaining to give Immaculata a lead they would not surrender on their way to defeating Centenary 72-68 for their twelfth consecutive win. Abigail Boyer led Immaculata with 15 points, and Tessa Liberatoscioli scored 12 points including scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter. Five Mighty Macs reached double figures in the game.
 
With their win Immaculata improves to 19-3 overall, and 9-0 in Atlantic East Conference play. With the loss Centenary falls to 14-10 overall, and 3-6 in Atlantic East Conference play.
 
With their 19th win, Immaculata matches the 2013-14 team, and the 2010-11 team that both went 19-9 for the most wins in the NCAA era (1982) of Immaculata women's basketball.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Centenary jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, before Reese Mullins got the Mighty Macs on the board with a layup with 7:19 remaining in the quarter. Abigail Boyer scored on consecutive layups and completed a three-point play on the second layup to tie the score 7-7. Riley Cassidy hit a three-pointer and made a pair of free throws as Immaculata led 14-13 after the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter, Tessa Liberatoscioli opened the scoring for Immaculata with an early layup. Carly Coleman gave Immaculata a 24-23 lead with 6:16 remaining in the quarter on a layup. Abigail Boyer hit a three-pointer with 0:27 remaining in the quarter as Immaculata led 37-33 at halftime.
  • Centenary scored the first six points of the third quarter to take a 39-32 lead. Immaculata broke the run when Olivia Ettorre hit a jumper with 8:16 remaining in the quarter. Ettorre followed with a pair of free throws, and Meg Robbins and Carly Coleman scored on layups. Alyssa Long scored on a layup with 0:34 remaining as Immaculata trailed 48-47 after three quarters of play.
  • Reese Mullins and Olivia Ettorre scored in the first minute of the fourth quarter to give Immaculata a 51-48 lead. Centenary responded by taking a 61-56 lead with 5:12 remaining in the game. Olivia Ettorre got Immaculata going with a layup. Alyssa Long hit a free throw, and Tessa Liberatoscioli scored on a layup to tie the score at 61-61 with 3:51 remaining. Trailing 63-62, Tessa Liberatoscioli put Immaculata up to stay with a three-pointer with 1:56 remaining. Reese Mullins, Alyssa Long, and Abigail Boyer each hit free throws, and Tessa Liberatoscioli hit a pair of free throws with 0:04 to ice game as Immaculata closed out the win 72-68.
