Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Women's Basketball to Win at Marymount, 70-51

ARLINGTON, Va.- The Immaculata women's basketball team shook off the rust of a ten-day layoff using a fourth quarter surge to win at Marymount 70-51 on Saturday. The win was Immaculata's ninth consecutive win. Abigail Boyer led the Mighty Macs with 24 points, as three Immaculata players scored in double figures. 

With the win Immaculata improves to 16-3 overall, and 6-0 in Atlantic East Conference play. With the loss, Marymount falls to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in Atlantic East Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After Marymount opened a quick 4-0 lead, Reese Mullins got Immaculata on the board with a three-pointer to make the score 4-3 with 7:36 remaining in the quarter. Abigail Boyer followed with a pair of three-pointers to give Immaculata a 9-6 lead. Carly Coleman scored on a layup with 3:11 remaining in the quarter to put Immaculata up 13-9. Marymount would score the final 12 points of the quarter to lead 21-13 after one quarter of play. 

  • Tessa Liberatoscioli scored early in the second quarter on a tip-in, and Abigail Boyer and Riley Cassidy hit three-pointers to cut the Marymount lead to 24-21. Liberatoscioli scored a pair of baskets late in the quarter as Marymount led 32-27 at halftime. Abigail Boyer led Immaculata with nine points in the first half. 

  • In the third quarter Carly Coleman hit a pair of free throws, and scored two baskets, to pull Immaculata within one point at 36-35. Abigail Boyer scored on a fast break to put Immaculata up 37-36 with 4:52 remaining in the quarter. Boyer would score on a layup and hit a pair of free throws late in the quarter as Immaculata trailed 42-41 after the third quarter. 

  • In the fourth quarter, Carly Coleman hit a pair of free throws to get Immaculata started. Tessa Liberatoscioli stole the ball and passed to Abigail Boyer who scored on a layup to put Immaculata ahead to stay 45-44. Boyer followed with a jumper, and a three-pointer to extend the lead to 50-46 with 7:37 remaining. Carly Coleman hit four consecutive free throws, and Tessa Liberatoscioli hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 59-48. Alyssa Long scored a pair of buckets, and Liberatoscioli and Coleman each hit free throws. Immaculata closed out the win 70-51, outscoring Marymount 29-9 in the fourth quarter. 

TOP PERFORMERS 

  • Abigail Boyer led all scorers with 24 points tying her career high, shooting 4-9 from behind the arc, with six rebounds, a blocked shot, and two steals. Boyer was a plus 20 in the game. 

  • Carly Coleman scored 15 points, with eight rebounds, four assists, one blocked shot and five steals. Coleman was a plus 23 in the game. 

  • Tessa Liberatoscioli scored 13 points, with six rebounds, one assist, and four steals. Liberatoscioli was a plus 17 in the game. 

  • Alyssa Long scored six points, with seven rebounds, five assists, one blocked shot, and two steals. Long was a plus 24 in the game.  

  • Reese Mullins scored five points with four rebounds and was a plus 18 in the game.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS  

  • Immaculata shot 41.8% (23-55), 33.3% (7-21) from behind the arc, and 94.4% (17-18) from the strip. They scored 12 second chance points, 26 points in the paint, and scored 24 points off turnovers. 

  • Marymount shot 35.1% (20-57) from the field, 20.8% (5-24) from behind the arc, and shot 66.7% (6-9) from the stripe. They scored 11 second chance points, 26 points in the paint, and 13 points off turnovers.
