GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball fell 3-0 to the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins on Saturday, as the Atlantic East Conference playoff picture comes into focus.
The Mighty Macs are 11-16 for the season. They are 4-3 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GWYNEDD MERCY
- The Griffins grabbed the first six points before an attack error gave the ball back to the Mighty Macs. Immaculata snagged a few points off Gwynedd Mercy errors, and kills by Mia Esposito and Damani Myers. But, the home team opened the morning with a 25-6 win.
- Immaculata saw an early lead in the second set on kills by Antonia Antolini and Alayah Phifer. The two sides took turns stealing the lead from one another until a 7-1 Griffins run put them up 18-12. Gwynedd Mercy was victorious in set two 25-14.
- Eliana Szatkowski and Esposito earned kills in the initial part of the third set. A quick three points by the Mighty Macs would cut the Gwynedd Mercy deficit to two. The Griffins took an eight-point advantage, 20-12, before Immaculata attempted a comeback. However, Gwynedd Mercy took the set 25-21, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Esposito and Phifer were tied for the team lead of five kills each.
- Adriana Blas assisted seven times.
- Adriana Ventura paced the back row with 14 digs.
UP NEXT
The Mighty Macs are headed to the AEC postseason, which begins next week. With the third seed secured, Immaculata heads right to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. They will be on the road to face the Marywood University Pacers.
