SALISBURY, Md. – Immaculata women's basketball kept their Sunday evening game versus the Salisbury University Sea Gulls close, but the Sea Gulls got a clutch bucket with less than 30 seconds to seal it, 66-64.
The Mighty Macs are 3-2 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 7 versus Neumann.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SALISBURY
- The game was contested in the early stages, with both sides trading scores. The Mighty Macs got a two-point lead on an Olivia Ettorre triple before Salisbury hit a jumper. It was part of a 10-0 run by the Sea Gulls, as they would lead 23-15 after one.
- Even though Salisbury continued to maintain their advantage, Immaculata used a solid 13-0 push to get back in the game. The run was initiated by Carly Coleman and capped off by Ettorre. A Salisbury three-pointer cut their deficit to one. The Mighty Macs held a slim 33-32 lead at the half.
- The second half was similar to the first. Neither side could truly separate themselves from the other. Coleman and Abby Grillo paced the Immaculata offense throughout the quarter. Sabrina Little sparked a fast break at the end of the third on a steal, and she assisted Coleman on a layup. The Sea Gulls were up 48-47 through three.
- With under seven minutes in the fourth, the Sea Gulls took back the lead on a three-pointer. Moments later, a layup from Little tied the game at 56. Coleman was crucial in the waning moments, converting on a jumper and two free throws. However, Salisbury collected an offensive rebound off a missed triple and hit a jumper to take the lead for good. Salisbury won 66-64.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coleman added another dominant double-double in the Governor's Challenge Tournament. This time, it was 26 points and 12 rebounds. She also had four assists, two blocks, and three steals. All were team-highs except for the steals, which tied Little.
