Field Hockey Falls to St. Mary's (Md.) at Home on Wednesday

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team fell to St. Mary's College of Maryland 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium. With the loss, Immaculata falls to 4-10 overall, and St. Mary's of Md. with the win improves to 7-4 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. MARY'S OF MD.
  • St. Mary's (Md.) opened the scoring 1:07 into the first quarter to take a 1-0.
  • Immaculata had two early shots on goal, both saved by St. Mary's goalkeeper, and the first quarter ended with St. Mary's (Md.) leading 1-0.
  • St. Mary's scored three more goals in the second quarter to lead 4-0 at halftime.
  • St. Mary's attempted to extend their lead three minutes into the third quarter was denied by a defensive save by Victoria Atkinson.
  • St. Mary's extended the lead to 5-0 on a penalty stroke 3:41 into the third period.
  • Immaculata escaped further damage at the 12-minute mark of the third quarter, as Atkinson denied two close-range shots during a goalmouth scramble.
  • St. Mary's (Md.) closed out the scoring late in the third quarter and would go on to earn the 6-0 win.

  • Victoria Atkinson had three defensive saves for Immaculata to become the first IU player to record three defensive saves in a game since Makenzie Sassaman had three in a game vs Molloy on September 29, 2018.
  • Mackenzie Schrack made eight saves in goal playing the second half of the game.
  • Maria Freeman and Gigi Fox had shots on goal for Immaculata.
