IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University field hockey team returned to the win column on Friday afternoon, earning a 1-0 victory over The College of Wooster at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Gabrielle O'Brien scored the lone goal of the match in the second quarter, with
Jillian Vandenbraak providing the assist.
Mackenzie Schrack was stellar in goal, recording eight saves to secure the shutout and the win for the Mighty Macs.
The game marked
Senior Day for Immaculata, as the program honored seven seniors prior to the contest:
Abby Fekete, Abby Jones, Rachel Madden, Jillian Vandenbraak, Emilyn Bivens, Gabrielle Munge, and
Gabrielle O'Brien.
With the victory, Immaculata concludes non-conference play with a 5-10 overall record. The loss drops Wooster to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in NCAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS THE COLLEGE OF WOOSTER
- Immaculata came out strong, generating four shots and two penalty corners in the first quarter.
- At the 8:52 mark of the second quarter, Gabrielle O'Brien found the back of the cage off a pass from Jillian Vandenbraak to put the Macs up 1-0.
- Mackenzie Schrack made two key saves in the second to preserve the halftime lead.
- Wooster pressed hard in the third quarter with eight shots, but Schrack stood tall with seven saves, including a critical four-save sequence during a goal mouth scramble.
- The Mighty Macs' defense held firm in the fourth quarter to close out the shutout victory.
