IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's volleyball split their final doubleheader of the season on Tuesday, sweeping the Penn State Schuylkill Nittany Lions before coming up just short against the Washington College Shorewomen 3-0.
Immaculata celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night, with a group of dancers performing traditional Mexican dances between the first and second set of the Washington College match.
The Mighty Macs are 6-13 for the season. They are 1-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PENN STATE SCHUYLKILL
- Immaculata scored the first three points of the afternoon before Penn State Schuylkill countered with two of their own. A 5-0 run would give the Mighty Macs a 9-6 lead. In the middle of the set, there was a stretch where Immaculata tallied a point, then Penn State Schuylkill did the same; this sequence happened five times in a row. A Nittany Lions attack error and a Mia Esposito kill finished the set, with Immaculata coming out on top 25-21.
- The visitors took an early advantage in the second set. A 9-0 Immaculata outburst provided the Mighty Macs a 17-12 lead. Adriana Blas, who had just come off the bench, logged three aces in that run, including on the initial two points. Immaculata scored six of the last seven to win the set 25-15.
- The beginning of the last set was a tight contest. Neither side gained a true advantage. A 7-1 home push increased the score to 17-11 Immaculata. Eliana Szatkowski saw an ace. The Mighty Macs controlled the match the rest of the way and cruised to a 25-16 victory. Immaculata was victorious in match one 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WASHINGTON COLLEGE
- The Mighty Macs trailed early in the match, but they fought back to take a 6-5 lead on multiple kills. However, Washington College slowly chipped away and used the momentum to go up by eight points. A huge 12-3 Shorewomen push proved to be an insurmountable lead for Immaculata. The set, which ended on a service error, concluded 25-14.
- Despite Immaculata winning the first point of set two, thanks to a Washington College attack error, the Shorewomen ripped off seven straight scores. Similar to the Penn State Schuylkill match, where each team scored a point back-and-forth, the Mighty Macs and Shorewomen did this six times in a row. A Mighty Macs 6-1 run got the deficit to 20-16, but the visitors finished the set on a kill. Set two's final was 25-18.
- The Mighty Macs opened the last set of the evening with kills by Esposito and Santini Bulerin, as well as a few Shorewomen errors. An 8-1 outburst from the visitors would be the difference. Santini Bulerin and Araujo saw kills late, but the Shorewomen won the set 25-17, and the match 3-0.
