IMMACULATA, Pa. – Despite playing their third match in two days, Immaculata women's volleyball earned a 3-0 win over the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles on Saturday. It was their first conference victory of the season.
The Mighty Macs are 5-12 for the season. They are 1-0 in AEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SAINT ELIZABETH
- The Eagles took the first point of the afternoon on an ace, but the Mighty Macs' offense came to life with a 7-0 run. Immaculata took advantage of multiple Saint Elizabeth errors and dominated the Eagles at the end of the set with 11 straight points. The Mighty Macs got kills from Eliana Szatkowski, Damani Myers, and Angelica Santini Bulerin during that stretch. Immaculata took set one 25-17.
- The Mighty Macs opened the second set with an 8-3 lead. Back-to-back Saint Elizabeth aces were countered by a Myers kill. Although the Eagles took a 19-18 lead off a quick 3-0 run, the Mighty Macs answered with four straight to give them the lead for good. A visitors' service error ended the set 25-22.
- Saint Elizabeth started the final set with a six-point advantage. Down 10-5, Immaculata scored six in a row to go up by one point. The last part of the set was tightly contested, and the Eagles would force a set "overtime" at 24-24. However, Immaculata finished off Saint Elizabeth with kills from Mia Esposito and Calissa Araujo. Immaculata won set three 27-25, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Esposito recorded a team-best nine kills.
- Santini Bulerin dropped 25 assists and 10 digs.
- Lauren Gartman saw a season-high three aces.
- Szatkowski led the defense with three blocks.
