Men's Soccer Downs Elizabethtown 3-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team (1-2-0) used three second half goals to defeat Elizabethtown College (1-2-0) by a score of 3-2 in Saturday night's non-conference road match.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata and Elizabethtown would each record shots in the first sixty seconds of play, the first coming from Sean Franks.
  • The Mighty Macs continued to put chances together early, as Matthew Kirkpatrick struck the left post and Jonathan Olaleye had a shot tail right in the third minute.
  • Elizabethtown put pressure on Immaculata with a pair of shots in the eighteenth minute.
  • Following a wave of first half substitutions, the Mighty Macs and Blue Jays traded corner kicks a half hour in.
  • The schools would enter the break locked at zero.
  • Michael Balestriere put Immaculata on the board in the 50th minute with an unassisted goal, his first of the season. Balestriere would create two more shots shortly thereafter.
  • Elizabethtwon's Aidan Valentine scored the equalizer eleven minutes later, knotting the game 1-1.
  • The scoreboard held firm until the 83rd minute, as Immaculata delivered the go-ahead goal. Reed Lindsay placed a shot bottom right that was batted away by Elizabethtown's goalkeeper but followed by Kyle Coleman for the Macs' second score.
  • Immaculata extended their edge three minutes later, as goalkeeper Ryan Straub found Matthew Kirkpatrick to give the Macs a 3-1 lead late in the match.
  • Inside the final minute of play, Elizabethtown capitalized on a foul in the box. Pedro Guizardi stepped up to take their penalty kick, as he'd convert the try at the 89:12 mark. 
  • The Blue Jays threatened to level the score late, drawing a corner with 18 seconds remaining, but the Mighty Macs would halt the attempt and hold on for a 3-2 victory.
