Women's Soccer Heads to Chambersburg to Play Wilson College on Saturday

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team (2-1-0) is back in action on Saturday, when the travel to play at Wilson College.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The two schools are meeting for the seventh time in their series that began in 2001. Immaculata has won all six of the previous meetings.
  • This will be the first match between Immaculata and Wilson since 2006.
LAST MEETING
  • Melissa Hopely scored twice, and Kristi Dittbrenner made two saves in goal as Immaculata defeated Wilson 2-1 on October 16, 2006, at Wilson College.
  • Melissa Hopely opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a goal assisted by Ashley McMullen and Kelli Ortega.
  • Melissa Hopely provided the late game heroics in the 88th minute scoring the eventual game winner assisted by Charlene Henry to give Immaculata the 2-1 lead. 
IMMACULATA NOTES
  • Immaculata registered its second victory of the season with a 2-1 come-from behind win against King's College on September 2nd at Draper Walsh Stadium.
  • Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Rachel McNamee began the late game heroics scoring her third goal of the season in the game's 83rd minute on a 30-yard free kick to level the game at 1-1.
  • In the game's 88th minute Kelsey Caldarelli scored the eventual game-winning goal off a corner kick from Sam Terry. It was Caldarelli's first goal of the season.
  • Gabby Palladino got the assist on Caldarelli's goal for her first assist in a Mighty Macs uniform.
  • This was Immaculata's second come from behind 2-1 win of the season.
  • Emily Guthier made seven saves in goal to earn her second win of the season.
  • Immaculata strong performances from multiple players including Carly Coleman (one goal), Sam Terry (one assist), Gabby Palladino (one assist), and Marissa Birmingham.
SCOUTING WILSON
  • Wilson enters Saturday's match 2-0-1 on the season, posting clean sheets in each of their three games.
  • Wilson defeated Eastern Mennonite 1-0 at home on August 30th, then defeated Mary Baldwin 1-0 at home on September 1st. The Phoenix played to a scoreless draw at Mount Aloysius on September 3rd.
  • Midfielder Maddy Miller scored for the Phoenix in the win over Eastern Mennonite.
  • Forward Halley Shaffer scored the Phoenix's goal in the win over Mary Baldwin.
  • Each of the Phoenix's goalkeepers played a game, earning the clean sheet. Rebecca Markovitz had four saves against Eastern Mennonite, Erin Roszkowiak had eight saves vs Mary Baldwin, and Madison Ebersole had two saves vs Mount Aloysius.
WEEKLY HONORS
  • On Tuesday afternoon during the Mighty Macs game vs King's the Atlantic East Conference announced their weekly women's soccer awards.
  • Rachel McNamee and Emily Guthier were named to the Atlantic East Conference Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for their performances in the first weekend of competition.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS
  • With her three goals on the season, Rachel McNamee now ranks seventh in program history for career goals with 16, and she ranks sixth in career points with 41.
UP NEXT
  • The Mighty Macs will be on the road on Tuesday, September 10th when they travel to St. David's, PA to play Eastern University at 3:30 pm.
