Women's Soccer Downs Albright in Final Conference Tune-up

MMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team (4-5-1, 0-0-0 AEC) defeated the Albright College Lions in Tuesday evening's non-conference matchup. The Macs exited Draper Walsh with the 2-1 victory after Savanna Crowding scored her season-first goal and Marissa Birmingham tallied the first of her collegiate career.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata put pressure on Albright early in the contest as Rachel McNamee and Kelsey Caldarelli produced shots in the 9th minute.
  • Caldarelli's try led to an Immaculata corner, one that led to a Savanna Crowding header that found the back of the net. Crowding was assisted by Sam Terry, who played the corner on the fly to the penalty marker.
  • Albright looked to even the score, finding shots in the 10th minute.
  • Carly Coleman found a window thirteen minutes in, but opposing keeper Alexis Solt used a foot save to deter Coleman's shot attempt
  • Emily Guthier made her third save in the 18th minute, intercepting a left footed try from the side of the penalty box.
  • The Mighty Macs held possession for much of the opening half, generating the last four shots before the break. Rachel McNamee made two of the attempts, but both met the gloves of Alexis Solt.
  • Immaculata's starting eleven took the field to open the second period.
  • The Macs played several minutes on their own half before shifting fields with the Lions.
  • Albright would send a pair of shots wide against Immaculata in the 50th and 59th minute.
  • Midway through the second half, the Mighty Macs connected on their second score. Rachel McNamee found Gabby Palladino near midfield, as Palladino played a through ball to the right corner for Marissa Birmingham. Birmingham tapped ahead before burying a 15-yarder far post.
  • Late in the contest, Albright was aggressive in their attacking third.
  • The Lions had a pair of shots miss high in the 78th and 79th minute.
  • With 8:00 on the clock, Emily Guthier used her knuckles to punch an Albright corner. After an Immaculata header away, the ball was settled by Lion's midfielder Sarah Chernis who floated a shot into Immaculata's goal.
  • Despite two more shots attempts from the Lions, the Mighty Macs came away with the 2-1 home victory, their second win at Draper Walsh Stadium on the year.
