Women's soccer comes up empty at home

IMMACULATA, Pa.-The Immaculata University women's soccer team fell in their Saturday afternoon meeting with Penn State Abington. Despite generating 14 shots with half of their attempts on target, the Mighty Macs were fanned at home by the visiting Lady Lions, 0-2. 

How It Happened
  • Penn State created a shot inside the first minute of play before playing a corner kick over the goal area.
  • Sam Terry garnered Immaculata's first look, a try that met the gloves of PSU goalkeeper Rachel Wilfrid. 
  • Carly Coleman sent a header toward goal off a lofted pass from Rachel McNamee, but Wilfrid gathered the shot attempt.
  • In the 18th minute, McNamee and Coleman lined up shots from around the arc that were stopped by the Lady Lions.
  • Twenty minutes shy of halftime, Penn State Abington's Nikki Fischbach found a shot as Immaculata tried to clear a corner. Her attempt missed the goal wide right.
  • Rachel McNamee created shot attempts from the left side in the 29th and 31st minute of play.
  • Sam Terry sent a ball into the box off a 40th minute free kick that was caught by PSU's keeper.
  • A minute later, Emily Guthier returned the favor by grabbing a free kick shot attempt from Abington's Madison McDowell.
  • The teams entered halftime with a zeroes on the scoreboard.
  • Penn State Abington possessed the ball immediately following the break, creating a pair of corners that led to shots in the 47th and 48th minutes.
  • After a pair of tries that went high, the Lady Lions netted the game's first goal. Jenna Beltle sent the pass that Kaitlyn Frank headed into the left side webbing.
  • Immaculata and Penn State switched fields often during for much of the second half.
  • Kelsey Caldarelli sought to sneak a shot under the crossbar, but her 67th minute attempt was snagged by PSU. 
  • Brianna Latham played a pass over the defense to Gabby Palladino, whose eventual shot missed the goal frame high.
  • Emily Guthier deterred a pair of shot attempts in the 77th and 78th minute to keep the Macs' comeback hopes alive.
  • With nine minutes remaining, Abington went ahead 2-0 as Madison McDowell curled a left-side corner kick directly into Immaculata's goal.
