IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata men's soccer team (3-4-0) was unable to find the back of the net despite creating many meaningful chances against Susquehanna University. The visiting River Hawks emerged the 1-0 victors, using a single score thirteen minutes in to slip past the Mighty Macs on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Immaculata had the first and second shots of the game in the 9th minute. On the first try, Reed Lindsay played toward goal as Michael Balestriere's poke went wide.Â
- Thirty seconds later, Michael Prall sped past the River Hawks' center backs to punch a shot from the arc, but his line drive was snagged by Susquehanna goalkeeper Tony Burns.Â
- Susquehanna notched the game's lone goal in the 14th minute, as Hayden Swinehart sent a slow pass through the teeth of the Mighty Macs defense to Daniel Hartzell. Hartzell put his left foot on the ball to bury the cross 6 yards from the back post.
- Michael Balestriere and Reed Lindsay each delivered shots midway through the opening half.
- Later, Matthew Kirpatrick cut back for a left footed try that rolled wide. Two minutes later, Oliver Wilkins got his foot on a Reed Lindsay free kick, as Wilkins try was corralled by the Hawks' keeper.
- The teams traded corner kicks early in the second half.Â
- Michael Prall was aggressive in the opposing box, redirecting a pair of headers just over the crossbar in the 53rd minute.Â
- With 29 minutes left in regulation, Michael Balestriere received a cross near the penalty stripe where he used two touches to play the ball from his midsection toward the far post. Just shy of the goal line, Balestriere's shot was heroically batted away by a River Hawk defender toward Susquehanna's goalkeeper, who promptly covered the defection.
- More chances would arise between the 64th and 68th minute, as Michael Prall, Reed Lindsay, and Sean Franks all generated shots on goal saved by River Hawk keeper Tony Burns.
- Ryan Straub collected saves in the 71st and 79th minute to keep the match in check for the Mighty Macs.
- The clock would ultimately expire following an Immaculata corner, as Matthew Kirkpatrick's header from Jonathan Olaleye's cross went to no avail.
Immaculata's 16-4 shot advantage was spoiled by Susquehanna, who snuck one of their three shots on frame past the Mighty Macs.Â
