Pride Prevail over Mighty Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team fell to Widener University at Alumnae Hall on Thursday night. The Mighty Macs fought on several volleys before ultimately dropping three sets to Widener as the Pride claimed their fifth straight win.

How it Happened 
  • Immaculata's first point came on a double block from Mel Mann and Eliana Szatkowski. The Mighty Macs later generated another combo block from Calissa Araujo and Mia Esposito.
  • Lauren Gartman and Cianni Baez each recorded a service ace to gain a 5-4 edge early.
  • Christina Lenzo caught the Pride off guard, playing a set as an attack for a kill.
  • The Pride used a kill and a block to gain a 15-9 advantage, prompting an Immaculata timeout.
  • The Macs communicated well to see a pair of Widener attack errors out, but the Pride closed the first set on a seven point run to claim it 25-11.
  • Mia Esposito broke up the Pride's 4-0 start to the second set with a kill. 
  • Mel Mann provided a pair of kills to help Immaculata from an early deficit. 
  • Mia Esposito was later part of two blocks that gave the Macs their 8th and 9th point. 
  • Thanks to a string of attacks and pair of service aces, Widener generated an 18-9 advantage.
  • Kills from Mel Mann and Eliana Szatkowski gave Immaculata their final scores of the second set, one they'd drop 25-13.
  • Alayah Phifer flashed strong defense with digs on early set volleys, but the Pride prevailed on each and took a 5-1 lead in the final frame.
  • Widener continued to keep Immaculata on their toes, taking a 14-4 advantage.
  • The Mighty Macs then went on a four point run thanks to a Mel Mann kill, and an Esposito-Araujo double block. 
  • Calissa Araujo hit cross court for the kill on the Macs' tenth point.
  • Christina Lenzo halted an attack near the antenna with a block of her own.
  • Immaculata would fall in the final frame 25-13.
