Field Hockey Dealt Overtime Loss to Keystone

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University field hockey team (4-2, 0-0 AEC) was handed their second loss of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs used two overtime periods to settle a 1-1 regulation draw against Keystone College, as the Giants emerged victorious with the game-ender after 77 minutes of play.

How it Happened
  • Alexis Andrada put the first shot on goal as the recipient of a first-minute penalty corner.
  • She took a backhanded strike for the game's second shot, but it was stopped before reaching the cage.
  • Goalkeeper Julia Levase made a pair of saves in succession in the sixth minute to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the middle of the opening period, Della George attempted a shot off a penalty corner that came off the goalkeepers' pads.
  • The Macs fended two more shots in the opening period before it ended on zeroes.
  • Keystone secured the opening goal just after the 20 minute mark, as midfielder Jordan Vandermark looped a shot over the Macs that tucked just under the crossbar.
  • Four minutes later, Della George placed a shot on goal that was kicked away by a defender, leading to a penalty stroke. George took the attempt herself, burying the ball in the left side of the cage to even the score 1-1.
  • Keystone threatened to go ahead in the third, outshooting Immaculata 4-1 during the frame. Immaculata returned the favor in the fourth, attempting 5 shots to Keystone's 1 in the period.
  • The schools would end regulation knotted at 1 goal apiece.
  • The Giants were on their heels early in the overtime sequence, as Alexis Andrada and Della George tested Keystone's defense with shots.
  • Immaculata appeared to grab the game-ending goal midway through the first overtime period, but Della George's shot was waived off as it stemmed from just behind the shooting circle.
  • The match ultimately came to a close in the 2nd overtime window, as Vicky Mainero turned upfield quickly and split the pads with the shot that gave the Giants a 2-1 victory.
