Women's Soccer Falls to Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- On Tuesday afternoon, the Immaculata women's soccer team (2-3-0, 0-0-0 AEC) played their fourth road match of the season at Eastern University.

The Mighty Macs put together chances early and jumped to a 1-0 lead, but the Eagles ultimately claimed the 3-1 victory.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata maintained possession and control early, setting up a shot on goal in the second minute of play.
  • The Mighty Macs drew a corner kick near the ten minute mark. Sam Terry set up from the right arc and played the ball across the six. After an initial bounce off an Eagles' defender, Gabby Palladino met the ball with a header to bump it over Eastern's keeper.
  • Immaculata threatened to add to their 1-0 lead with a corner two minutes later, but the Macs' eventual shot would miss high.
  • The Eagles began stringing shots together before getting on the board in the eighteenth minute. Eastern connected a pass from midfield to the corner of the goalkeeper box, opening the face of the goal for Ella Marollo to bury the Eagles' equalizer.
  • Immaculata's defense was forced to match Easterns' physicality, as the Eagles continued to put shots on target. Emily Guthier recorded 7 saves through forty minutes of play, as the Macs accounted for 2 team saves.
  • Eastern netted the go-ahead goal in the 41st minute of play, as Eagles' center back Nicole Eveland sent a pass overtop the Mighty Macs' formation. Eastern forward Nicole Eveland settled and scored on a right-footed strike to go up 2-1.
  • Immaculata looked to even the score in the second half with a small handful of set pieces.
  • On one, Jena Hayes made a stealthy outside run past the Eagles back line, but Eastern's keeper ran out to secure the ball off the bounce.
  • In a later chance, Rachel McNamee pursued her own free kick entry, but her left-footed follow would skip into the goalkeeper's chest.
  • The score would hold for much of the remaining clock before Eastern put the game away with an 89th minute goal, dropping the Mighty Macs to 2-3-0.
Inside the Numbers
  • Gabby Palladino netted her first goal in Carolina blue in the eleventh minute. Former Cavalier teammate Sam Terry logged the assist, her second in a Mighty Macs jersey.
  • In addition to Palladino, Rachel McNamee, Carly Coleman, and Savanna Crowding placed shots on frame for Immaculata.
  • Emily Guthier registered 11 saves and faced a total of 22 shots from the Eagles. The Macs' back line added 2 team saves.
