Women's Soccer stumbles against NJCU

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Immaculata University women's soccer team (2-4-0, 0-0-0 AEC) fell to New Jersey City University in their second home contest of the season. The Gothic Knights handedly outshot the Mighty Macs, feeding a 4-0 final that favored the visitors.

How it Happened
  • Immaculata drew the game's first corner kick in the third minute. After NJCU's clear attempt, Gabby Palladino found Rachel McNamee up the left sideline, but McNamee's left footed strike met the hands of the opposing keeper.
  • New Jersey City netted the game's first goal in the 11th minute. From the Macs' defensive corner, NJCU's Kim Brights played a pass back to Nyrohah Alvarenga who curved a shot off one bounce into the right side webbing of Immaculata's goal.
  • The Gothic Nights went ahead 2-0 with a 35th minute score. Gineth Martinez lofted a 50/50 ball into the penalty box and Sarah Reyes tapped it over the Macs for the goal.
  • Immaculata sought to get on the board early with a 51st minute corner kick. After getting batted away, Marissa Birmingham collected the ball and passed to Sam Terry. Terry used a touch to loft the ball to Kelsey Caldarelli, whose right footed try just missed the goal frame.
  • Nyrohah Alvaregna put the Knights up 3-0 in the 57th minute off a direct free kick boot from the penalty arc.
  • Carly Coleman, Danielle Griffin, and Sam Terry delivered shots in the 68th, 71st, and 74th minute, but none made their way into NJCU's net.
  • Emily Guthier made a pair of saves to deny a breakaway goal in the 73rd minute. Guthier made a foot save on the initial shot attempt before catching the rebound inside the six.
  • New Jersey City tallied their fourth score in the 85th minute, when Shea Ramirez snuck a shot into the upper corner of the Macs' goal.
