IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's volleyball team got back in the win column defeating Hood College 3-2 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, and 15-10) on Tuesday evening at Alumnae Hall. This was the second time this season that the two clubs played a five-set match, as Hood defeated Immaculata 3-2 on February 10
th on their home court. This is the third consecutive match between the two schools to go five sets.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Immaculata was led by
Josh McGurl who had 20 kills, four service aces, and nine digs.
Michael Prall had five kills, and seven digs.
Brandon Lieberman had four kills, one service ace, and 10 digs.
Joe Martell had three kills, 22 assists, one service ace, two blocks, and seven digs.
Jack Debes had one kill, one service ace, two blocks, and six digs.
Matthew Pfister had seven digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set Immaculata opened an early 8-2 lead as
Josh McGurl served five straight points including four service aces. The teams would exchange points back and forth throughout the remainder of the set. Immaculata got kills from
Josh McGurl and
Brandon Lieberman as the won the first set 25-21.
Hood took an early 5-2 lead in the second set. Immaculata responded as
Michael Prall served four straight points that included a kill from
Joe Martell as Immaculata took a 7-5 lead. With the score tied at 20-20,
Josh McGurl gave Immaculata the lead with a kill, and followed by serving three consecutive points as Immaculata won set two 25-21.
Hood refused to go quietly, as they rallied to take set three 25-23, holding off late Immaculata surge. Hood followed by taking set four 25-17 to force a fifth and deciding set.
In the first set, Hood took an early 5-1 lead. Immaculata earned the side out on a kill by
Jack Debes, who followed up by serving three consecutive points to tie the score at 5-5. The teams then exchanged points bring the score up to 9-9. Immaculata earned a side out to take a 10-9 lead.
Thomas Pierce followed by serving       four straight points to put Immaculata up 14-9. After Hood earned a side out, they followed with a service error on match point to give Immaculata the 3-2 win taking set five 15-10.

The Immaculata University men's volleyball team (3-11) will be back in action on Saturday, March 9
th when the host Wilson College at Alumnae Hall for a doubleheader with the first match starting at 12:00 PM. The second match will follow at 2:00 PM.
