IMMACULATA, Pa.- Four Mighty Macs scored in double figures, as the Immaculata came back in the fourth quarter to earn an Atlantic East Conference win over Gwynedd Mercy 66-59 on Wednesday evening at Alumnae.
Prior to the game, Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy celebrated the 38
th annul National Girls & Women in Sports Day with youth players from St. Agnes and Villa Maria Academy. Three members of the original "Mighty Mac" National Championship teams- Betty Ann Quin, Sue O'Grady, and Theresa Grentz were on hand for the ceremony.
Immaculata was led by
Abigail Boyer who scored a career-high 24 points, including nine in the fourth quarter to go along with three rebounds, one blocked shot, and two steals.
Tessa Liberatoscioli scored 14 points, with five assists, six rebounds, four blocked shots, and six steals.
Morgan Falcone scored 11 points, with six rebounds.
Reese Mullins scored 10 points, with five rebounds.
Abigail Lentowski scored seven points, with a game-high 12 rebounds.
In the first quarter, Immaculata got the scoring started early with a three-pointer by
Morgan Falcone to take a 3-0 lead.
Reese Mullins and
Abigail Boyer each hit three pointers in the first quarter. Gwynedd Mercy would lead 22-13 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Immaculata got three-pointers early from
Morgan Falcone and
Abigail Boyer and a pair of jumpers from
Tessa Liberatoscioli to take a 25-24 lead with 5:42 remaining in the quarter. Gwynedd Mercy would respond with a 9-0 run to take a 33-25 lead into the halftime break.
Reese Mullins hit a three-pointer, and a lay-up early to close the Gwynedd lead to 33-30 with 9:06 left in the quarter. Gwynedd would increase their lead to a game high 12 points with 1:37 remaining in the quarter. Immaculata would respond with a jumper from
Abigail Boyer, two free-throws from
Tessa Liberatoscioli to pull back to within eight points at 46-38. With four seconds remaining in the quarter
Abigail Boyer got the inbound pass, took it up the court and put a shot just past the center line that banked off the back board and scored a buzzer-beating three-pointer that energized the team and the fans as Immaculata trailed 46-41 after three.
In the fourth quarter,
Abigail Boyer and
Tessa Liberatoscioli hit early three-pointer to pull Immaculata back to within one point at 48-47 with 7:35 remaining. Gwynedd Mercy would respond and extend their lead to five with 6:48 remaining.
Abigail Boyer hit another three-pointer, and
Morgan Falcone hit a jumper to even the score at 52-52 with 5:23 remaining. Immaculata would get baskets from
Tessa Liberatoscioli and
Abigail Lentowski taking a 56-54 lead.
Reese Mullins would hit a pair of free-throws, and
Abigail Boyer hit her third three-pointer of the fourth quarter to extend Immaculata's lead to 61-54. Tessa Liberatoscioii hit a jumper and
Morgan Falcone hit a three-pointer as Immaculata earned the 66-59 win.
