CHESTER, Pa.- The Immaculata University men's volleyball team fell to Widener University 3-0 (25-27, 13-25, 23-25) Thursday evening at the Schwartz Center at Widener.
BY THE NUMBERS
Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl with 11 kills and six digs. Michael Prall had six kills. Joe Martell had five kills, and handed out 23 assists, with two service aces, and four digs. Jack Debes had three kills, one block, and one dig. Brandon Lieberman had three kills, three assists, and three digs. Brandon Fox had three kills, and four total blocks. Chris Pfister had four assists and 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0 early in the first set, Immaculata earned a side out on a kill by Jack Debes. Joe Martell followed serving three straight points including two service aces as Immaculata took a 4-3 lead. The teams would exchange points. Immaculata would take a 23-22 lead on a block by Brandon Fox. Widener responded with consecutive points to retake the lead 24-22. Immaculata would go back ahead at 25-24 on a kill by Brandon Lieberman. Widener would respond with three consecutive points to win the first set 27-25.
In set two, Widener used a six-point run to jump out to an 8-2 lead. Brandon Lieberman served two consecutive points that included a service ace, and a kill by Josh McGurl as Immaculata closed the score to 10-6. Widener would respond with another six-point run on their way to taking set two 25-13.
In set three, Immaculata would not go quietly. Immaculata took an early 3-1 lead as Joe Martell served two straight points that included a kill from Josh McGurl. Immaculata would take a 10-5 lead on a block by Joe Martell and Brandon Fox. Widener would answer back taking a 12-11 lead. Immaculata would regain the lead at 13-12 on kills by Josh McGurl and Michael Prall. Widener would use a three-point run to take a commanding 23-19 lead. Joe Martell served consecutive points with kills from Josh McGurl and Michael Prall to pull within one at 23-22. Widener would hold on to take set three 25-23, and the match 3-0.
