Women's Basketball Honors Senior Class in Win Over Penn State - Berks

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team honored its senior class on Wednesday evening as the Mighty Macs defeated Penn State – Berks 70-41 in their final regular season home game.

Before the start of the game, the Mighty Macs honored their three seniors Mary deSimone, Victoria Foster, and Bridget Philbin for their hard work both on and off the court throughout their college careers.

Additionally, the Mighty Macs honored Team Impact graduate Ali Gilbert. Ali joined Team Impact after being diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in 2020. She courageously battled through intensive treatment for 2.5 years with constant support of her family. Ali was welcomed into the Immaculata women's basketball team in early 2022 before signing her team impact National Letter of Intent to join the roster in December of 2022. She and her sister Leah have gotten to participate in various events with the women's basketball team, including helping her celebrate the end of treatment. We wish Ali the best of luck and pray for a happy and healthy future ahead.

Immaculata was led this evening by senior Victoria Foster, who scored a career-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, with three rebounds and two blocked shots. Meg Robbins scored a career-high 12 points, with three rebounds. Mary deSimone scored eight points, with three rebounds, one blocked shot, one steal, and had a career-high nine assists. Bridget Philbin had a career-high seven points, with one rebound, one blocked shot, and one steal. Francesca Scarpone had six points, with three rebounds. Abigail Lentowski had six points, and three rebounds. Julia Pohl had four points, with a career-high eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and one steal. Tessa Liberatoscioli had five rebounds, three blocked shots, and four steals for Immaculata. Her 96 steals on the season, sets a new Atlantic East Conference record for steals in a single season with the previous record being 93.

In the first quarter, Immaculata jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on a jumper from Morgan Falcone, and a three-pointer from Victoria Foster. Mary deSimone scored back-to-back baskets for Immaculata as they extended their lead to 9-2. Immaculata would lead 21-4 after the first quarter.

Bridget Philbin got the scoring opened early in the second quarter with a jumper. Meg Robbins scored consecutive baskets for Immaculata as they led 27-4 with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter. Immaculata would get baskets from Mary deSimone, Victoria Foster, Abigail Lentowski as the led 42-9 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Penn State-Berks opened with a 7-0 run to begin the quarter. Immaculata would break the run on a layup from Meg Robbins, followed by layup by Mary deSimone. Victori Foster, Meg Robins, Olivia Ettorre, and Tessa Liberatoscioli would all score as Immaculata led 60-26 after three quarters.

Immaculata would close out the win in the fourth quarter, winning 70-41.
