Men's Basketball Falls to NJCU in Doc Greene Tournament Final

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team fell to New Jersey City University, 59-43, in the championship game of the Doc Greene Holiday Tournament hosted by Juniata College. John Proctor and Mandon Seapoe paced the Mighty Macs with 10 points each. 

With the loss Immaculata falls to 5-8 overall, while NJCU improves to 8-4 overall. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Immaculata jumped out to an early lead as Mandon Seapoe and John Proctor led the early attack for Immaculata. Dylan Crews scored on a layup with 12:55 remaining in the first half to give Immaculata an 18-6 lead.  

  • In the first half the game was delayed for several minutes due to problems with the shot clock and scoreboard. The first half continued using a stopwatch for the remainder of the half. NJCU finished the first half with a 19-7 run to lead 30-28 at halftime. 

  • NJCU controlled the action for most of the second half as Immaculata struggled to score in the half. Mandon Seapoe broke a long scoring drought for Immaculata scoring with 7:39 remaining as NJCU led 51-35. Dylan Crews would score on a pair of driving layups and John Proctor hit a jumper. 

  • NJCU would go on to close out the win 59-43. Dylan Crews was named to the All-Tournament Team for Immaculata. 

TOP PERFORMERS 

  • John Proctor scored 10 points, with two rebounds, and four steals. 

  • Dylan Crews scored eight points, with three rebounds, four assists, and one steal. 

  • Robbie Logan scored five points, with two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. 

  • Samuel Jankowski scored four points with one rebound, one blocked shot, and one steal. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Immaculata shot 30.9% (17-55) from the field, 4.3% (1-23) from behind the arc, and 72.7% (8-11) from the stripe. They scored seven second chance points, 30 points in the paint, and they scored 15 points off turnovers. 

  • NJCU shot 46.7% (21-45) from the field, 25% (3-12) from behind the arc, and 77.8% (14-18) from the stripe. He scored 12 second chance points, 24 points in the paint, and scored 14 points off turnovers. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Immaculata men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, January 4th when the host Marymount University at Alumnae Hall for their Atlantic East Conference opener at 3 p.m.
