Women's Soccer Hosts Gwynedd Mercy In AEC Tournament First Round Game on Saturday

THE STORYLINE
  • The Immaculata women's soccer team (6-9-2, 2-3-1 AEC) returns to the Atlantic East Conference Tournament after not qualifying in 2023, when they host Gwynedd Mercy in the First Round.
  • Immaculata enters the Tournament as the fourth seed after finishing their season 2-3-1 in the Atlantic East Conference. The Mighty Macs fell to AEC Regular Season Champion Marywood in their season finale on Wednesday.
  • Gwynedd Mercy (6-9-2, 2-4 AEC) enters the tournament as the fifth seed after defeating Centenary 4-3 on Wednesday to secure their spot. Gwynedd Mercy finished tied with Pratt Institute for the final spot, but advanced on the head-to-head tiebreaker, since they had defeated Pratt.
THE SERIES
  • Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy are meeting for the 29th time in their series that began in 1999.
  • Immaculata is 8-19-1 all-time vs Gwynedd Mercy.
  • This is the third time the two schools have met in a playoff match. Gwynedd Mercy defeated Immaculata 2-0 in the CSAC Tournament First in 2016, and Immaculata defeated Gwynedd Mercy 1-0 in the CSAC Tournament First Round in 2010.

MIGHTY MAC NOTES
  • Senior Rachel McNamee led Immaculata in scoring this season with seven goals, which ties her career best. McNamee currently ranks fourth in program history for career goals with 20. She has started 62-out of-67 games played in her IU career.
  • Freshman Carly Coleman is tied for second on the team in scoring with four goals and one assist. Coleman had the game winning goal late in her first collegiate game in Immaculata's 2-1 season opening win over Bryn Athyn.
  • Junior Gabby Palladino is tied for second in scoring with two goals, and a team-high five assists. The transfer from Cabrini has been an important part of the team's success this season.
  • Junior Savanna Crowding registered two goals and added one assist.
  • Freshman Marissa Birmingham has been a fantastic addition to the Mighty Macs this season. She has started 14 out of 16 games played and has registered one goal and two assists. Birmingham has made an impact on both ends of the field for Immaculata.
  • Senior Kelsey Caldarelli has started all 17 games for Immaculata. She scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute of Immaculata's come from behind win over King's College.
  • Senior defenders Janelle Kern and Samantha Seidito have anchored the Immaculata backline all season with both starting all 17 games for the Mighty Macs.
  • Junior goalkeeper Emily Guthier has started all 17 games for Immaculata and is 6-9-2 with 2.48 goals against average. She has made 94 saves on 242 shots faced and has two shutouts.
  • Immaculata has gotten strong play from sophomore Mia Perrone one goal and one assist, and freshman Addison Yackel with one goal and one assist.
  • Immaculata is 3-4-1 at Draper Walsh Stadium this season.
 
SCOUTING GWYNEDD MERCY
  • Senior forward Bethany Beinlach with ten goals and three assists, junior midfielder Natalie Morris with six goals and five assists, sophomore midfielder Bridget Cannon with four goals and four assists lead the Griffins attack.
  • Sophomore forward Demmi Fox with four goals and three assists, and sophomore defender Rebecca Gordon with two goals and five assists will provide additional scoring for Gwynedd Mercy.
  • Junior Natalie Gablien has started 10 games in goal and is 2-6-2 with 2.21 goals-against average and has one shutout.
  • Gwynedd Mercy is averaging 16.9 shots per game, and their opponents are averaging 20.1 shots per game.
  • Gwynedd Mercy is 1-5-1 in road games in 2024.

  • The winner of today's game will advance to play in the Atlantic East Semifinals at no. 1 seed Marywood on Wednesday, November 6th. The no. 2 seed Marymount is hosting the no. 3 seed Neumann on November 6th.
