Mayoros and Watson Score as Macs Down Falcons 2-0 in Non-Conference Match Up

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team (7-7, 1-0 AEC) defeated Cedar Crest 2-0 on a windy Monday night at Draper Walsh Stadium. Kailey Mayoros had a goal and helped set up the second goal to lead the Immaculata attack. Mayoros has scored in consecutive games for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata dominated the play outshooting Cedar Crest 24-0.

The Immaculata midfield and defensive core led my Della George, Abby Fekete, Madalyn Bonner, and Kaitlin Gale limited Cedar Crest to one penalty corner. Immaculata flyer Della George deflected the ball away before the Falcons could get a shot off the corner.

This was the Mighty Macs final non-conference game of the season. There remaining four regular season games are all Atlantic East Conference games. 

How it Happened
  • Immaculata quickly went on the attack in the first quarter earning three early penalty corners. Cedar Crest goalie Shelby Heater was up to the task making six saves in the first quarter as the game remained scoreless.
  • Immaculata had five shots on goal in the second quarter but were unable to find the back of the cage.
  • Cedar Crest earned their only penalty corner in the game's 20th minute. Immaculata flyer Della George got out off the line and knocked the ball away before the Falcons could get a shot off. The game remained scoreless at the half.
  • Immaculata finally found the back of the cage in the game's 33rd minute when Kailey Mayoros scored off her own rebound for her third goal of the season to give the Mighty Macs the 1-0 lead.
  • Immaculata continued applying pressure on the Cedar Crest goal throughout the third and fourth quarters.
  • In the game's final minute, Rory Watson lifted her own rebound over the Cedar Crest goalie for her first collegiate goal. The goal came off a penalty corner that was inserted by Abby Fekete, shot by Kailey Mayoros, and was deflected by Stephanie Webb. Rory Watson shot the rebound that was saved, then lifted the ball, and tapped in out of the air for the goal.  
  • The Mighty Macs would go on to close out the 2-0 win.

  • The Immaculata field hockey team will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th when they travel to Marywood for an Atlantic East Conference game at 1:00 pm.
