Field Hockey Hosts Manhattanville for Senior Day and their AEC Opener on Saturday

THE STORYLINE
  • Immaculata (5-7) returns to Draper Walsh Stadium for their 2024 Atlantic East Conference opener against Manhattanville on Saturday, October 12th. Immaculata enters Saturday's contest after ending their winless streak at Goucher on Tuesday winning 2-1. Emilyn Bivens scored in the first quarter to end Immaculata's offensive drought, and Gabrielle O'Brien scored in the second quarter. Julia Levase made eight saves in goal.
  • Manhattanville (3-8) enters Saturday's game having lost their last two games. The Valiants fell at the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday 2-1 and fell to King's College on October 5th 1-0.

  • These two schools are meeting for the third time in their series that began in 2022.
  • Immaculata is 2-0 all-time vs Manhattanville.
 
THEIR LAST MEETING  
MIGHTY MAC NOTES
  • Emilyn Bivens led the Immaculata offense on Tuesday night generating five shots on goal. Bivens goal in the 10th minute gave Immaculata the 1-0 lead and ended the Mighty Macs offensive dry spell.
  • Alexis Andrada had one shot and registered her first collegiate assist on Emilyn Bivens goal in the first quarter. Andrada currently leads Immaculata in scoring with seven goals, one assist, and 15 points.
  • Gabrielle O'Brien scored her first goal of the season in her third game back in the lineup in the second quarter to extend Immaculata's lead to 2-0 on Tuesday.
  • Julia Levase made seven saves to help Immaculata earn the 2-1 win. Levase is 5-7 on the season with a 1.90 goals-against average and has two shutouts.
  • Immaculata got strong performances in the midfield from Della George, Abby Fekete, and Jillian Vandenbraak. George continues to be a strong presence on both sides of the field for Immaculata. George has three goals and a team high four assists.
  • Madalyn Bonner registered a pair of defensive saves in the third quarter to help Immaculata preserve their lead heading into fourth quarter.
  • The Immaculata defensed core successfully defended 13-out of-14 Goucher penalty corners.
 
SCOUTING MANHATTANVILLE
  • Sophomore defender Sabina Cosmo with three goals and two assists, and sophomore forward Keira Guinan with four goals led the Manhattanville offense.
  • Sophomore forward Shannon Keena has two goals and two assists, and sophomore forward Taylor Benedetto has one goal and a team high three assists.
  • Sophomore forward Fiona Doherty and senior defender Alyssa Monahan each have two goals and one assist.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Cat Morgan has started six games and is 1-4 with a 3.59 goals-against average. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Doherty has started five games and is 2-4 with a 1.69 goals-against average and has one shutout.
  • Manhattanville is averaging 10.8 shots per game, and their opponents are averaging 16.4 shots per game.
 
ATLANTIC EAST CONFERENCE OPENERS
  • Immaculata is 2-3 all-time in conference openers since the formation of the Atlantic East Conference in 2018.
  • This is the first time that Immaculata and Manhattanville are meeting for an AEC opener.
  • Going back to Immaculata's time in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, the Mighty Macs are 6-4 overall in their last ten conference openers dating back to 2013. There was no conference season played in 2020 due to the pandemic.
 
UP NEXT
  • Immaculata field hockey will be back in action on Monday, October 14th when the host Cedar Crest College at Draper Walsh Stadium at 7:00 pm for their final non-conference game of the season.
  • Join the Immaculata field hockey team as the dedicate Monday evening's game to the Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) Foundation. Stephanie Strong, the mother of Immaculata field hockey player, Sydney Saxton was recently diagnosed. Head Coach Kate Stopford is asking for those attending to wear green to show support.
