Mighty Macs Drop Heartbreaker to Falcons in Shootouts

ALLENTOWN,PA.-  The Immaculata field hockey team dropped their contest on the road at Cedar Crest by a score of 1-0 in shootouts.
 
Through the first 30 minutes of play, neither team could find the back of the net, heading into the break with the score deadlocked at 0-0. Immaculata won the first half battle in shots and shots on goal with six and four. They also drew more corners with five in the half.
 
Sophomore Abby Fekete led the Mighty Macs with two shots on goal in the half, juniors Caitlyn Ryan and Della George each added one. Junior goalkeeper Julia Levase saved the only shot she faced in the half.
 
The score would remain deadlocked at 0-0 throughout the entirety of the second half, as well as two ten-minute overtime periods. This would result in shootouts, throughout the first five Mighty Mac attempts, senior Lauren Vandenbraak was the only one to get behind the Falcons goalkeeper and find the back of the net. Down to their last chance to tie it in shootouts, a Falcon used an aerial dribbling technique and a lifted shot to tie the shootouts at one a piece.
 
In the fourth round of sudden death shootouts, the Falcons would find the back of the net for a walk off victory.
 
Della George would add three more shots on goal in the second half for the Mighty Macs while senior Lauren Buckel would add one. Levase would save all three shots she faced on the evening, as well as numerous saves on shot attempts in shootouts. Immaculata would end their evening drawing 11 corners.
 
The Immaculata field hockey team is back in action on Saturday, September 30th when they travel to Arcadia University for a 1:00 PM matchup.
