IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team defeated Penn State Abington 3-1 on Tuesday night to raise its season record to 11-2.
Immaculata senior setter
Emily Ettien became the fifth player in the Immaculata women's program history to 1,000 career assists. Ettien reached this honor during the second set of tonight's match when she set a kill from her long-time teammate
Ava Thorley. Ettien now sits at 1,008 career assists.
In the first set, Penn State-Abington jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. Immaculata would battle back to close the lead to 11-10. Penn State-Abington would use a six-point run to extend the lead to 19-11 and go on to take set one 25-17.
In set two,
Emma Hodgson served four straight points to give Immaculata a 11-7 lead.
Dinah Stabinski would serve three-consecutive points including an ace as Immaculata increased their lead to 16-10. Immaculata would go on take set two 25-18 as
Emma Hodgson served three consecutive aces.
In set three, the teams would exchange points early, and the score was 4-4. Immaculata would get a side out, and
Christina Lenzo served six straight points as Immaculata took a 12-5 lead.
Emily Ettien served four consecutive points that included a kill
Emma Hodgson, a block by
Calissa Araujo, and an ace from Ettien. Immaculata would win set three 25-17.
In set four, Penn State Abington took an early 3-1 lead. With the score tied at 8-8, Immaculata got a side out on a kill by
Calissa Araujo to take a 9-8 lead.
Karissa Herman served four straight points to give Immaculata a five-point lead. Herman would come back later and serve two more points to put the Mighty Macs on the verge of victory. Immaculata closed out the set winning 25-21 on a kill by
Emma Hodgson to take the match 3-1.
Immaculata was led offensively by
Emma Hodgson with eight kills, and seven service aces.
Ava Thorley registered seven kills, and
Emily Ettien added six kills, and handed out 15 assists.
Christina Lenzo added 12 assists, and
Lily Burnette and
Karissa Herman each had two service aces.
The Mighty Macs were led on the defensive side by
Lily Burnette with 13 digs,
Dinah Stabinski with 12 digs, and
Karissa Herman with seven digs.
Mia Esposito registered four blocks, and
Calissa Araujo added one block.
The Immaculata women's volleyball team will be back in action on Sunday, October 1
st when the travel to Camden, N.J for a tri-match with Rutgers-Camden and Brooklyn College. The Mighty Macs will play the host Rutgers-Camden at 11:00 AM, and Brooklyn College at 1:00 PM.
