Ettien Sets Program Match Record as Mighty Macs Sweep Tri-Match

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team swept their tri-match on Saturday afternoon defeating Bryn Athyn 3-1 and the host New Jersey City University 3-0. With the wins, Immaculata raised its season record to 10-2. This is the first time they have reached double figures in wins since the 2015 season when they went 14-8. 

In their first match of the day, Immaculata played Bryn Athyn College. In the first set, Immaculata jumped out to an early lead as Emily Ettien served eight consecutive points including three straight aces to give the Mighty Macs an 8-0 lead. Lily Burnette would also serve three straight aces as the Mighty Macs would go on to take set one 25-15. 

In set two, Bryn Athyn would use a seven-point run to take an early 9-2 lead. The Mighty Macs would use a five-point run of their own to pull the score back to 10-7. With Bryn Athyn leading 24-14, the Macs would rally for five straight points with Lily Burnette serving four of them. Bryn Athyn would win set two 25-19. 

In the third set, the teams exchanged points early as the teams stood tied at 7-7. Emily Ettien served six consecutive points including three service aces to give Immaculata a 14-7. The Mighty Macs got kills from Mia Esposito and Calissa Araujo during the run. Karissa Herman also served six straight points including three service aces as the Macs went on to take set three 25-12. 

In set four, Bryn Athyn took an early 5-1 lead. Karissa Herman served seven consecutive points including consecutive service aces as Immaculata went ahead 10-7. With the score tied at 11-11, Immaculata would take the lead on a kill from Ava Thorley. Dinah Stabinski would step up and serve five straight points including a pair of service aces as Immaculata took a commanding 17-11 lead. The Mighty Macs took the match 3-1, winning set three 25-14 as Emily Ettien served the final six points of the match. 

The Mighty Macs were led offensively by Emily Ettien with seven kills, 20 assists, and a new IU four-set single-match program record of 12 service aces. Mia Esposito had 11 kills, Calissa Araujo had seven, and Emma Hodgson had six. Christina Lenzo added nine assists. Karissa Herman registered six service aces and Lily Burnette added five. 

On the defensive side, Immaculata was led by Lily Burnette with nine digs, Dinah Stabinski with six, and Emily Ettien with five. Mia Esposito added one block. 

In their second match, Immaculata took on New Jersey City University. In the first set, the teams exchanged points early. With Immaculata holding a 14-11 lead, Emily Ettien served four straight points that included a pair of kills from Mia Esposito. Immaculata would win the first set by a score of 25-18, ending the set on a kill by Calissa Araujo

In set two, New Jersey City would use a four-point run to take a 12-8 lead. After breaking the run on a side out, Emma Hodgson would serve six consecutive points for Immaculata including a pair of service aces, and a kill from Calissa Araujo. Immaculata took set two 25-21. 

Immaculata would go on to close out the match taking set three 25-15. Dinah Stabinski served five straight points during the set. 

Immaculata was led offensively by Mia Esposito with eight kills, Calissa Araujo with six kills, and Ava Thorley with four kills. Emily Ettien distributed 15 assists, to raise her career total to 993 assists. Christina Lenzo registered six assists and added three service aces. Emma Hodgson added two service aces and Lily Burnette had one service ace.  

On the defensive side, the Mighty Macs were led by Lily Burnette and Dinah Stabinski who each contributed 11 digs, and Emily Ettien who added seven digs. Isabella Ridgell, Emily Ettien, and Emma Hodgson each had one block. 

The Immaculata women's volleyball team returns to Alumnae Hall on Tuesday, September 26th when they will host Penn State-Abington at 7:00 PM.
