IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team continued their strong start to their season defeating Cairn University 3-1 on Thursday evening to raise their record on the season to 8-2.
In the first set, Cairn would take an early 3-1 lead. Immaculata would battle back to take an 9-8 lead on a kill by
Isabella Ridgell. Cairn would respond with a six-point run to take a 14-9 lead. Cairn would go on to win the first set 25-22.
In set two,
Christina Lenzo served three consecutive points including one service ace to give Immaculata a 9-5 lead.
Lily Burnette then served three consecutive points that included kills by
Emily Ettien and
Emma Hodgson as Immaculata went up 17-11.
Christina Lenzo served four consecutive service aces as the Mighty Macs took set two 25-19.
In set three, both teams exchange points back-and-forth. With Cairn holding a 13-12 lead
Lily Burnette served three consecutive points to give Immaculata a 16-13 lead.
Karissa Herman served back-to-back points that included a kill by
Emily Ettien. Immaculata would take set three 25-20.
In set four, the Mighty Macs started fast with
Dinah Stabinski serving four consecutive points as the Macs went ahead 5-1. Cairn refused to go quietly cutting the Immaculata lead to 6-5. After
Christina Lenzo served four additional points, Cairn again battled back to pull even at 17-17. Immaculata would get kills from
Ava Thorley,
Emily Ettien, and
Mia Esposito to take a 20-18 lead.
Christina Lenzo then served three straight points to put the Macs up 23-18. Immaculata go on to close out the match on a kill by
Emily Ettien winning set three 25-20 and the match 3-1.
Immaculata was led offensively by
Emily Ettien with 14 kills, 15 assists, and one service ace.
Emma Hodgson and
Mia Esposito each added six kills, and
Ava Thorley and
Calissa Araujo each added four kills.
Christina Lenzo distributed 15 assists and added seven service aces for the Mighty Macs.
On the defensive side, Immaculata was led by
Lily Burnette with 26 digs,
Dinah Stabinski with 15 digs,
Emily Ettien with seven digs, and
Karissa Herman with six digs.
Calissa Araujo added two blocks and
Emma Hodgson had one block.
The Immaculata women's volleyball team will be back in action on Saturday, September 23
rd when the travel to Jersey City, N.J. for a tri-match with New Jersey City University and Bryn Athyn College. Immaculata will play Bryn Athyn at 1:00 PM and New Jersey City at 3:00 PM.
