IMMACULATA, Pa.- Anthony Inserra picked up six total points scoring five goals and adding one assist to reach 100 career points as the men's lacrosse team defeated Delaware Valley 13-9.
Immaculata opened the scoring with 8:53 remaining in the first quarter when
Anthony Inserra scored on a man up situation on an assist by
David Azzarano. Delaware Valley would tie the game up with 7:33 remaining in the quarter, and the game went into the second quarter tied at 1-1.
In the second quarter
Ben Wesolowski,
David Azzarano, and
Connor Teears all scored to give Immaculata a 4-1 lead. Delaware Valley would score a pair of goals that were each countered by Immaculata goals from Connor Tears and
Anthony Inserra as the Macs carried a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Baily Manion scored early to extend the Macs lead to 7-3. Delaware Valley would respond with a pair of goals to cut the lead to 7-5.
Anthony Inserra would respond for the Mighty Macs with his third goal of the game. Delaware Valley would proceed the score the next three goals to tie up the game at 8-8.
Bailey Manion would restore Immaculata's lead with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Anthony Inserra added another goal as the Macs led 10-8 at the end of three quarters.
Anthony Inserra scored his fifth goal of the game early in the fourth quarter to extend Immaculata's lead to 11-8 and recorded the 100
th point of his college career.
Nicholas Dimonda followed with a goal with 10:32 remaining in the fourth quarter. Delaware Valley cut the lead to 12-9 with 10:12 remaining in the game.
Connor Teears his third goal of the game to close out the scoring. The Macs would go on to close out the 13-9 win.
The Mighty Macs were led by
Anthony Inserra with five goals and one assist,
David Azzarano with one goal and four assists, Connor Tears with three goals, and
Bailey Manion with two goals and one assist. Defensively the Macs were led by goalkeeper
Matthew Ludlow who made 19 saves and added seven ground balls,
Robbie Wishart with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers, and
Daniel Alvarez with five caused turnovers and five groundballs.
The Immaculata men's lacrosse team (5-3) will be back in action on Saturday, March 25
th when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Draper Walsh Stadium at 1:00 PM.
