IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's basketball team defeated the Moravian 72-71 in their home opener to give
Brittany Whalen her first win as Mighty Macs Head Coach.
The Mighty Macs were led by
Reese Mullins with 18 points, four rebounds, and four block shots. Tessa Liberatorscioli scored 17 points, with nine rebounds, and four steals.
Morgan Falcone scored 16 points with five rebounds, and
Abigail Lentowski who scored ten points and had seven rebounds. Freshmen
Emma Wagner, who recorded her first basket as a Mighty Mac scored six points.
Abigail Boyer distributed eight assists for the Macs which is a career high for Boyer.
In the first quarter of play,
Morgan Falcone hit a three-pointer with 6:07 remaining to give Immaculata a 7-6 lead.
Reese Mullins followed with a jumper as Immaculata led by three at 9-6. Moravian responded outscore Immaculata 10-3 to take a 17-12 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter,
Morgan Falcone got Immaculata started with an early three-pointer to pull the Mighty Macs with in two at 17-15.
Tessa Liberatoscioli followed with another three-pointer to give the Macs the lead at 19-17.
Reese Mullins would score down low and draw the foul. She would complete the old fashioned three-point play as Immaculata opened an eight-point lead.
Morgan Falcone would hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left in the half as Immaculata carried a 38-32 lead into the first half break.
In the third quarter, Moravian began working the ball down low and managed to push back and take the lead at 45-44. Morgan Falcon scored consecutive baskets as Immaculata retook the lead at 48-47.
Tessa Liberatoscioli hit a pair of free throws late in the quarter, and Immaculata led 54-50 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the teams would exchange basket. Moravian continued to work down low to eventually take the lead at 69-67 with 1:48 remaining in the game. After drawing a foul
Reese Mullins hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 69-with 1:30 remaining. Moravian re-took the lead at 71-69 with 0:58 remaining.
Tessa Liberatoscioli scored with 0:36 remaining to tie the game at 71-71. With 0:19 remaining,
Olivia Ettorre contested a pass by Moravian trying to hit Sam Osorio down low,
Abigail Boyer came up with the steal. The Might Macs pushed up the floor and
Olivia Ettorre drew the foul on an attempted driving layup. Ettorre would hit one of two from the line to give Immaculata a 72-71 with 0:03 remaining.
Moravian took a time out and advanced the ball up on the time out. The Mighty Macs defended well and held on to take the win 72-71.
