IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's volleyball team was back in action on Saturday, as they hosted Penn State Schuylkill and John Jay College in a tri-match at Alumnae Hall. Immaculata earned a split today, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 3-0, and falling to John Jay 3-0 in their second match.
Immaculata 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0
In their first match, Immaculata took on Penn State Schuylkill. Immaculata jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first set as
Emily Ettien served four straight points.
Lily Burnette would serve 10 consecutive points to put Immaculata on the brink of taking set one. Immaculata would take set one 25-7 on a kill by
Emma Hodgson.
In set two,
Karissa Herman served three points to put Immaculata ahead 5-3. Penn State Schuylkill would not go quietly, as them batted back to even the set at 17-17.
Lily Burnette would serve three straight points as Immaculata would take set two 24-19.
In set three, Penn State Schuylkill jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
Karissa Herman served four straight points including two service aces as Immaculata went ahead 5-4.
Jenna Bozzo five consecutive points including an ace and kills from
Alayah Phifer and
Calissa Araujo. Penn State Schuylkill would fight back in the match and took a 21-20 lead.
Dinah Stabinski served the final four points including a service ace and kills from
Calissa Araujo and
Diana Rivera as Immaculata took the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
Immaculata was led offensively by
Emma Hodgson with nine kills, Alyah Phifer with eight kills, and
Calissa Araujo with six kills.
Jenna Bozzo had 11 assists,
Emily Ettien had six assists and
Gabby Kaminski had four kills.
Karissa Herman had five service aces,
Lily Burnette had four service aces, and
Emily Ettien had one.
On the defensive side
Lily Burnette led Immaculata with 22 digs,
Dinah Stabinski had 10 digs, and
Karissa Herman had six digs.
Emma Hodgson added one block for Immaculata.
John Jay 3, Immaculata 0
In their second match Immaculata took on John Jay College. In the first set Immaculata went up 7-4 early as
Emma Hodgson served consecutive aces. John Jay would respond with an eight-point run to take a 16-10 lead. John Jay would go on to take the first set 25-16.
In set two John Jay got out to a quick 4-0 lead. Immaculata would battle back to close the score to 4-3 as
Lily Burnette served an ace, and
Emma Hodgson had a kill. John Jay would quickly regain control of the set with multiple four-point runs. John Jay would take set two by a score of 25-15.
In set three John Jay immediately jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. Immaculata would not go quietly as they cut the John Jay lead to 20-17 as
Emily Ettien served eight consecutive points. John Jay would increase their lead 23-18. After a side out,
Lily Burnette served four straight points including a service ace and a kill from
Ava Thorley as Immaculata drew within two at 23-21. John Jay would hold on to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Ava Thorley led Immaculata on the offensive end with eight kills.
Mia Esposito added five and
Emily Ettien registered six kills.
Emily Ettien had 12 assists.
Christina Lenzo registered four assists, and
Karissa Herman had two assists.
Lily Burnette and
Dinah Stabinski each had three service aces and
Emma Hodgson had two.
On the defensive side,
Lily Burnette had 11 digs,
Ava Thorley, and
Karissa Herman each registered eight digs.
Dinah Stabinski added six digs. Â
