IMMACULATA,Pa.- The Immaculata field hockey team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University in overtime by a score of 1-0 in the Atlantic East Quarterfinals.
 
In what seems to be becoming the norm between the two programs, it was the Mighty Macs who won their 3^rd straight matchup over the Griffins in extra time. The teams were evenly matched throughout, with each goalie making three saves on the afternoon. Immaculata led the way in penalty corners drawn with 10 versus Gwynedd's eight.
 
Gwynedd had a slight edge in shots with eight compared to the Macs seven, but Immaculata had four shots on goal versus three for the Griffins.
 
In the first minute of overtime, it was Lauren Vandenbraak who played hero. Vandenbraak took the ball around mid-field and beat everyone including the goalie to find the back of the net and send the Mighty Macs onto the Atlantic East Semifinals for the second consecutive year.
 
Vandenbraak led the way with two shots on goal, while Lauren Buckel and Abby Fekete each added one.
 
The Immaculata field hockey team will travel to Marywood University on Wednesday, November 1st for their semi final matchup with the Pacers at 6:00 PM.
