Men's Basketball Holds on to Defeat Marywood in Conference Match Up

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Immaculata men's basketball team had four players score in double figures as they held on to defeat Marywood 83-80 in an Atlantic East Conference game on Monday night. 

The Mighty Macs were led by Tyler Tillery who scored 20 points, including shooting 6-for-6 from the stripe, while adding six rebounds. John Proctor scored 19 points and contributed eight rebounds. Keith Farmer scored 15 points, Brandon Perez scored 14 points, and Gregory Vlassopolous scored nine points. Steven Dao had a game-high nine rebounds. Immaculata out-rebounded Marywood 46-29 for the game. 

In the first half, the teams exchanged leads early. With Immaculata trailing 15-14, the Macs would open a 20-15 lead after consecutive three-pointers from Brandon Perez. The Mighty Macs would continue to stay in the lead behind scoring from Perez, John Proctor, and Gregory Vlassopoulos. Immaculata would carry a 40-31 lead into the halftime break.  

Brandon Perez led all scorers in the first half scoring 12 points, while Gregory Vlassopolous scored nine, and John Proctor scored eight. Immaculata as a team shot 14-for-26 (53.8%) from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the stripe in the half.  

In the second half, Immaculata would see its lead grow to 18 at 62-44 with 9:40 remaining in the game. Marywood refused to go quietly as they applied pressure and continued to chip away at the Immaculata lead. Marywood would trim the lead to 81-80 with only 0:06 remaining when Brandon Perez was fouled on a defensive rebound. Perez hit both free throws to help close out the 83-80 win. Tyler Tillery led the Mighty Macs in the second half scoring 14 of his game-high 20 points in the half. 

The Immaculata men's basketball team (4-3 in the Atlantic East) returns home Wednesday night when they host Centenary in an Atlantic East Conference game at 8:00 PM.
