Field Hockey Falls to No. 9 Kean

UNION, Nj. – The Immaculata Mighty Macs field hockey team was on the road looking to avenge their tough home opening loss to Eastern on Thursday night. The Mighty Macs battled throughout the match but fell to the No. 9 Nationally ranked Kean Cougars by a final of 6-0.

In the first quarter Kean came out on the attack and pressured the Mighty Macs defense throughout the frame. Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Levase made four saves as the Mighty Macs defense held on seven penalty corners. The game remained scoreless heading into the second quarter.

In the fourth minute of the second quarter Kean broke through on a goal by Jorja Hibschman off a penalty corner to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. This would be the only goal of the first half of play as Kean carried a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

At halftime Kean held a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 11-1 advantage in penalty corners. Levase strong play in goal with eleven stops kept the potent Cougar offense from building on their lead in the first half.

In the third quarter the Cougars scored two early goals to extend their lead to 3-0. The Mighty Macs continued to battle throughout the quarter, before the Cougars added their fourth goal late in the quarter, and two more goals in the fourth quarter for a 6-0 final.

Kean ended the contest with at 35-1 advantage in shots and 19-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Levase ended the first three quarters of play with twenty saves. Sophomore Ashley Finkbiner took over the goal in the fourth quarter recording eight saves.

The Mighty Macs return home on Wednesday, September 7 when they take on Moravian University at 7:00 P.M.
