ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Immaculata women's soccer team dropped their season opener on Thursday afternoon 5-2 to the Cedar Crest Falcons.
Cedar Crest opened the match up with a bang, scoring two goals in the first nine minutes to claim the early lead over Immaculata. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, freshman
Therese Weis scored the first goal of her collegiate career to bring Immaculata to within one. That difference did not last long as Cedar Crest picked up a goal six minutes later to go into the half with a 3-1 lead over Immaculata.
The Falcons added to their lead in the first three minutes of the second half.
Hannah Phillips then responded by scoring the second goal in the 52
nd minute of action. That would, however, be the final goal of record for the Macs while the Falcons would add a goal in the 55
th minute to claim the match 5-2.
The Mighty Macs were outshot 15-11 on the night but outshot the Falcons 7-4 on the second half.
Hannah Phillips led the Macs in shots on the night with two, including the second goal of the contest.
Bri Mantellino also contributed two shots while
Therese Weis picked up her first collegiate goal.
Immaculata returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Langhorne, Pa. for a matchup against Cairn at 1:00 P.M.
