LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Immaculata women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match against Cairn University Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs found themselves in an early 2-0 lead before battling back to even the match in the second half. Cairn scored the game winner well into the second half to take the match 3-2.
The Highlanders got on the board early scoring goals in the 4th minute and the 6th minute to take the early 2-0 lead. The Mighty Macs continued battling throughout the first half and got back into the match with a goal in the 31st minute from Kelli Dombroski on an assist from Savanna Crowding.
The game would go to the half-time break with the Mighty Macs trailing 2-1, despite holding an 11-9 advantage on shots.
In the second half the Mighty Macs came out and applied pressure on the Highlanders goal looking to even up the game. The Mighty Macs tied the game in the 53rd minute with a goal from Kristen Guthier on an assist from Bella Bonilla. They continued pressing, looking to take the lead before the Highlanders regained the lead in the 75th minute on Teresa Lee's second goal of the match.
Despite applying additional pressure on the Highlanders, the Mighty Macs were unable to score the equalizer, falling 3-2.
Kristen Guthier and Kelli Dombroski lead the way for the Mighty Macs each scoring one goal on three shots on the day. Goalkeeper Catie Paolini recorded six saves for the match.
The Mighty Macs will return home on Tuesday, September 6th when they take on DeSales University at 6:00 P.M.
