ARLINGTON, Va. – The Immaculata men's lacrosse team dropped a close matchup against Marymount on Saturday 14-11.
Marymount struck first in the matchup, scoring a goal 90 seconds into game. A few minutes later,
Steve Long scored to tie the match up at 1-1. Following another goal from Marymount,
Bailey Manion scored his first of the day to tie the match back up. Long scored one additional goal on the quarter while Marymount picked up two, holding a 4-3 lead over Immaculata after the first quarter.
In the second quarter,
Bailey Manion scored a goal for the Macs nine minutes in but it would be the sole Mighty Mac goal on the quarter as the Saints scored four to increased their lead to 8-4 at the half.
The Saints added two goals to their lead within the first five minutes of the third quarter, claiming a 10-4 advantage. The Mighty Macs then scored two goals from
Anthony Inserra and Manion but the goals were nullified as the Saints then scored two of their own.
With two minutes left in the third quarter, Long scored to kick off a five-goal run for the Macs as they attempted to come back in the fourth. Down 12-6 at the start of the rally, Long scored two while
Connor Teears, Manion, and Inserra each scored one to bring the Macs to within one at 12-11.
The Mighty Macs, however, would be kept scoreless over the final eight minutes of action as the Saints scored two goals to secure a 14-11 final score against the Macs.
Cole Metzger put in a fantastic day of work in net for the Macs, recording 19 saves on 33 shots on goal while also leading the Macs with seven ground balls on the day. Offensively, Long led the way with four goals and one assist on 12 shots while Manion also recorded four goals. Inserra, meanwhile, scored two goals and two assists overall.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Wednesday as they host Neumann in their regular season final.
