IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's lacrosse team registered a season-high 23 goals as they took down Centenary in an Atlantic East Conference matchup on Wednesday night 23-2. The Mighty Macs now improve to a 2-2 record in conference play on the season.
Bailey Manion kicked off the match with a goal in the first minute of action, giving the Macs a lead they would control for the rest of the game. Steve Long and Anthony Inserra each joined in on the scoring before Manion recorded his second goal of the game later in the quarter. David Azzarano then scored two goals while Connor Teears and Branden Smith each scored one to make it a 7-0 lead. The Cyclones would get on the board with two minutes remaining as the Macs owned a 7-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Immaculata continued to increase its lead with eight goals in the second quarter alone. Joseph Biuso and Ben Wesolowski joined in on the festivities while Teears and Long added onto their goal totals for the night. Overall Immaculata went into halftime with a 15-1 advantage over Centenary.
The Macs picked up where they left off in the first half,scoring three goals in the third quarter. Azzarano, Manion and Smith each picked up additional goals in the quarter. Moving into the fourth quarter, the Cyclones got back on the board five minutes into the period but would be unable to find the net again. Thomas McSweeney, meanwhile, recorded his first collegiate goal with eight minutes remaining, giving the Macs their 20th goal on the night. Robert Wishart then joined Manion and McSweeney to score three additional goals in the final seven minutes of action as the Macs ran away with a 23-2 victory over the Cyclones.
Bailey Manion led the Mighty Macs on the night with five goals and six assists for 11 points overall as he recorded season-highs in each category. David Azzarano, meanwhile, contributed three goals and four assists, while Steve Long added three goals of his own. Ten Mighty Macs contributed points on the night.
Cole Metzger earned the victory in the net for the Macs, making eight saves overall while allowing one goal in one quarter of work.
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Arlington, Va. for a 1:00 P.M. matchup against Marymount.
