Macs Take Home Opener Versus Alvernia

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata men's lacrosse team took down Alvernia in their season opener on Wednesday by a score of 10-8. Freshman Bailey Manion led the Macs on the day with three goals scored while adding two assists.
 
Manion kicked off the game for the Macs, scoring the first goal of the season five minutes into the first quarter on an assist from Steve Long. After a goal from the Golden Wolves tied the game up at 1-1, Manion and Long connected on another goal to regain the lead. Then, with five minutes left in the first quarter, Anthony Inserra scored on a Manion assist, giving the Macs a 3-1 lead.
 
The Wolves then scored the next two goals of the game, one during the final 90 seconds of the first quarter, and one three minutes into the second quarter, as the score stood at 3-3. An unassisted goal by Long gave the Macs a temporary 4-3 advantage before a goal from the Wolves tied the game up at 4-4 heading into the half.
 
The third quarter then belonged solely to the Macs as they scored four goals on the period. Joseph Biuso and Connor Teears scored alongside Long and Inserra while Inserra recorded two assists, and Manion and Teears each tallied an assist.
 
In the fourth quarter, Teears and Manion each scored additional goals on respective assists from Inserra and Long as the Macs held a 10-4 lead over the Golden Wolves. During the final four minutes of the game, the Wolves attempted to rally back, scoring four goals, but where unable to catch up as the Macs claimed a 10-8 victory.
 
Bailey Manion led the Macs with three goals scored on the night, adding two assists for five total points. Anthony Inserra and Steven Long also reached five points for the Macs, scoring two goals and recording three assists apiece.
 
The Mighty Macs will return to action on Saturday as they host Penn College for a 1:00 P.M. contest.
