Macs Drop Close Contest Versus Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Despite overcoming an early deficit, the Immaculata men's basketball team dropped their contest against Gwynedd Mercy 55-50 on Wednesday evening. Dylan Crews led the Macs with 14 points on the game.
 
The Griffins owned the first seven minutes of the first half, outscoring the Macs 17-7 to take an early 10-point lead. Crews then scored six points over the next four minutes to lead the Macs on a 14-4 stretch, tying the game up at 21-21 with eight minutes remaining on the half. The Griffins then outscored the Macs 8-4 in the final eight minutes of the half to take a 29-25 lead heading into the half.
 
The Macs led the Griffins in rebounds on the half 21-23 while also going a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe on the half. Crews led the Macs with 10 points on the half while Gregory Vlassopoulos chipped in with seven points.
 
The first seven minutes of the second half consisted of back-and-forth basketball before the Macs went on an eight-point run to take a 43-42 lead over the Griffins with under eight minutes remaining. The Griffins quickly recovered their lead, taking a 48-45 lead with four minutes left on the clock. Though the Macs attempted to regain the lead late, the Griffins matched the Macs point-for-point before claiming the 55-50 final score over the Macs.
 
On the game, the Macs out-rebounded the Griffins 41-32 while shooting 11-for-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line. Crews led the Macs with 14 points on the game while Vlassopoulos led the Macs with nine rebounds while adding 11 points on the game. Asa Kitchen also recorded double digits in points with 11 on the night.
 
The Macs will return to action next on Saturday as they host Neumann for a 3:00 P.M. contest.
